I recently began making these daily works on paper thinking about record-keeping, ritual, and the cyclical nature of time. Each day reflects whatever caught my interest within that 24 hour window of time. It might be the contents of my pocket, the view from that day's run, or a picture of my almost two-year-old. I take many pictures with my phone every day and never do anything with them. As a challenge for myself, I have been using these images; transferring them to transparent Japanese paper, adding drawn and written elements, and then waxing them to increase their transparency. Over the course of several years I hope to begin layering the same dates on top of each other to produce an image that contains information spanning several years. I hope that these efforts reveal patterns and help identify ritualistic behavior that mirrors the changing seasons.
